Student Appearance During Proctored Exams
Students participating in proctored video exams are expected to appear appropriately dressed and presentable for an academic testing environment. Proctors are considered an authorized official for testing purposes.
- Clothing must be appropriate for an academic setting. Attire with offensive, explicit, or disruptive graphics, slogans, or language is not permitted during proctored sessions.
- Students may not wear hats, hoods, scarves, or other head coverings during exams unless documented religious or medical accommodations have been approved in advance.
- Wearing earbuds, headphones, or any listening devices during a proctored exam is strictly prohibited unless specifically authorized as an accommodation.
- Students should be dressed as they would be for an in-person exam on campus. Pajamas or sleepwear are not appropriate for proctored testing sessions.
Testing Environment
- Students must complete their exam in a quiet, private, well-lit location where their face, hands, and workspace are clearly visible on camera at all times.
- The testing area must be clear of unauthorized materials, including textbooks, notes, phones, and secondary devices, unless the exam is explicitly designated open-book.
- Other individuals may not be present in the testing space for the duration of the exam. Students should notify household members in advance to prevent interruptions.
- All unnecessary applications, browser tabs, and device notifications must be closed before the exam begins. only permitted resources and the exam platform may be active during testing.
- Students must test their audio, video, and internet connection prior to the exam start time. Technical issues discovered after the exam begins do not constitute grounds for an automatic extension.
Conduct and Behavior During Proctored Exams
- Students must keep their camera on and their face fully visible for the entire duration of the exam. Disabling the camera or obscuring the video feed will be treated as a violation of exam integrity.
- Students may not leave the camera frame except in cases of a documented emergency. Unexplained absences from the video feed may be flagged as a potential integrity violation.
- Eyes and attention must remain detected at the exam screen. Repeated off-screen glances may be flagged by the proctor for review.
- Students may not communicate with other individuals -- verbally, by text, or through any other means -- during the exam.
- Students must be present and ready to begin at the scheduled exam start time. Late arrivals may not be granted additional time and may be denied access at proctor discretion.
- Eating, drinking (other than water), and smoking are not permitted during proctored exams.
- If a technical emergency requires the student to step away, they must notify the proctor immeditely. Unannounced absences will be documented and may result in exam invalidation.
- Students may not use profanity, offensive humor, sarcasm, or language that could be perceived as hostile, discriminatory, or harassing.
Failure to abide by these guidelines could result in a student code of conduct violation and may result in disciplinary action. Additionally, failure to abide by these guidelines may be perceived as a breach of academic integrity. Consequences for violations of academic integrity may include being required to retake an examination or resubmit an assignment, receiving an "F" on an exam or assignment, or receiving an "F" for the course.
